It should be a relief to know that, in the big picture, you’re not in charge. You’re not the toughest kid on the block and there is no reason why you should have to be. There’s always something out there stronger than you are (like gravity, for an off-the-top-of-my-head example) so feel free to kick back sometimes. Take a load off and let the universe figure it out.

There are certain people in our lives that try to keep us feeling like we’re human. They have a sense of superiority over us that puts up a ceiling, one that says “you’re not allowed to grow” or “I’ll always be right instead of you”. I’m thinking our parents during our teen years (because I said so), some teachers (you’ll use math in real life!), and bosses (I’ve been doing this for 30 years, you don’t know anything).

And then, you grow up. You see that you can grow and that sometimes you are right.

Your old self looks forward to the moment you can say “I told you so” to those overbearing figures.

Your new self hits the moment and just witnessing it all— it makes you feel like you don’t have to say anything at all.

Try jeans on. Mark what length you’d like with a pin or little pen mark.
Take jeans off, lay on flat surface.
Cut straight across. Keep disconnected leg.
Lay cut leg on top of other leg.
Cut across at this point.

If you want them to be frayed, roll up hem horizontally so that all cut edges form a “surface”. Take a hair brush and just run it over that surface. This will pull out some weft yarns and let the vertical yarns fray out. If you can, throw them in the wash/dry and the fraying will really come out.

Word up. ‘Bout to make some this weekend ;)
